The Equine Edge

There are many legends in horse racing. Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists is a testament to the drive and perseverance of Ruffian, who broke bones in her right foreleg after leaving the gate of her final race. Despite efforts to pull her up, the "Queen of the fillies" was motivated to finish and simply refused to stop, doing irreversible damage to her leg before racing the finish line.

At Cornell, clinicians and scientists demonstrate this same perseverance, uncovering cures for conditions that would otherwise shut down careers, identifying options to improve the quality of life for the specialized breeds that are clearly happiest when performing, and healing these superior athletes from disease and suffering. Please partner with Cornell faculty in their quest to beat the odds and give horses everywhere an edge: healthy and disease-free futures.
